Eligible: therapy and counseling with a licensed provider, psychiatric care, psychiatric medication, inpatient treatment, substance-use treatment programs, ADHD evaluations and treatment, autism-related therapies including ABA and speech therapy.
Not eligible: life coaching, general-wellness or meditation app subscriptions, marriage counseling not treating a diagnosed condition, self-help materials.
Therapy is one of the highest-value categories to track because it's so often out of network. Weekly sessions at $150 out of pocket total $7,800 a year — usually paid by card, with a superbill that goes straight into an email folder and never comes out again.
If your provider gives you a superbill for insurance reimbursement, that document already contains everything a valid receipt needs. Save a copy at the moment you receive it.
